day 6

SARUTAN: ramen with meat sause bolognesa type!

ISHIKAWA-DAI a small ramen restaurant,

deliscious, 700 yen

While making my first moves on NNT I realized there are different ways of constructing in Mexico and in Japan, but for the first day the opera that is being constructed is MANON LESCANT, BY PUCCINI, Actually is a German production, I met the German technical manager, and Isono san has been great with me during these days.

The only thing that I have been seeing is that German opera productions look alike, or at least the German speaking countries, they have been making for a decade now frames all around the bocaescena, and this rectangular pillars that come from up all the way down, slowly, I have see some productions with the similar aesthetics, from an Austrian set designer!

Anyway, then Shibuya was the thing at the evening,

Love the stores with perfect combinations of nonsense and cute!which makes it nice to have it!

many stores, many places to visit love it, crazy builduings and stores, I would appreciate it more if it wasnt so cold!

DAY 4 UDON, JUST OUTSIDE SHINJU-KU STATION GOING TO OPERA THEATRE, IN HANAMARU FAST , SUPER FAST FOOD COMPANY

It was in a way a good dream to start this day, Interesting enough was the day inside the New National Theatre, incredibly awesome to get to know Mr. isono , Technical manager of the opera house, and so it began my time in Tokyo, professionally speaking,

So we enter the guts of the main stage, opera stage, after looking around all the technical possibilities the theatre have ( which are of course impressive) we took a tour to the set of la traviatta that was playing at that moment in NNT, La Traviatta, staged by an Italian company Made a semi traditional design for our contemporary eyes, but it was impressive not the stage design itself ( which actually al thou it is traditional, the details, are perfect) but rather the movement of the stage between scenes.

The Stages moved from side to side, and the effect was made more efficient by moving the furniture by rails, from side to side, perfect trompe d oleil a la early Disney animation.

I also realized how printing in linoleum is a great answer to designed stage floors, it’s a cool effect, the only problem is that it makes it flat , and if you are not careful with lights, it might make a light line from side to side reflecting the upper lights

Lightings at the opera where really well lightened, basic great washes, not so many special lights, but perfect on what the opera needed, with a bright cyclorama.

Day 2 , sashimi

Talking in the office of Mr. Isono, the head technical director of the NNT and, Mr. Toru, and me, we exchanged cards, and agreed to work in a good condition on Wednesday.

Tomorrow there will be a performance of LA TRAVIATTA, probably the most famous opera staged today, it´s from an Italian company, so I will be able to get inside the set before the show, talk to some technicians and meet the producer of the opera, It will be a good experience to begin with the professional practice, I also talked to them about letting me learn about how to use all the computerized electric and hanging bars are used inside the NNT, The New National Theatre is comparable to the Mexican Bellas Artes , It is huge , containing three theatres , 1 big, 1 medium , and 1 small which at this point all three theatres are full with shows.

At this moment I am trying to study Japanese, and having a relaxed time I’m my tiny room, which it isn’t that bad at all, I just have to think Japanese, life is essential, things are always disposable.
